Recipe of the Month : Berry Healthy Dessert (serves 2)

I often have people ask me for healthy dessert ideas, particularly when doing a detox protocol, or when on a restrictive diet.  This time of the year my answer is easy.  Berries are in peak season right now.  Your local farmer's market will be stocked with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries.

Berries are an excellent source of vitamin C.  They are also rich bioflavonoids called proanthocyanidins.  These phytonutrients are important for skin health, cardiovascular health, proper functioning of the blood-brain barrier, and reduction of the allergic response

They are wonderful on their own, but this recipe can help when you're looking for a dessert with a more complex flavor and texture. It's also wheat, dairy, soy, and citrus free. Enjoy!

2 C mixed fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)

2 Bananas

1/2 C chopped raw walnuts

1 tsp. maple syrup 2 Tbsp. olive oi

1 tsp. chopped fresh mint leaves

Separate berries into two bowls, chopping strawberries if they are part of your berry mix. Slice the bananas and mix with the berries in the bowls.  Add half of the walnuts to each bowl.  Drizzle 1/2 tsp. of maple syrup into each bowl, and top with the chopped mint leaves.
